Harry "Mac" McConnell's Obituary
Harry “Mac” McConnell of Cape Coral, Florida passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice following some recent health challenges on Monday, March 13, 2017. He was 89 years old.Mac was born in College Park, Georgia on December 20, 1927, the proud son of Lillian (Herrick) and Harry F. McConnell. He served in the United States Navy during Word War II on oil tankers and was honorable discharged after 11 years of service. After returning to civilian life, Mac went to work on the Long Island Railroad where he was employed as a Conductor for many years before relocating to Fort Myers, Florida. After his move south, Mac was a longtime employee of the City of Fort Myers and retired as the Superintendent of Fort Myers Country Club. He remained an avid golfer throughout his golden years and was an active member of the “Over the Hill Elks” golf league.Mac was a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8463 in Cape Coral, Florida and was also a member of the Cape Coral Elks, Moose, American Legion and Eagles.Mac is survived by his wife, Robbie Howes; children Jeff McConnell (Carrie), Carol Young, Debra McConnell, Tracey Farrell, Kelley Fadorka, Kristin Sax (Jeremy) and Robin McConnell; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his stepdaughters Beth Moff (Greg) and Jennifer Ryan (Ted). He also leaves behind many extended family members and many more people who were proud to call him a friend.A Celebration of Life for Mac will take place inside the Chapel located at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. on Monday, April 10, 2017. Guests will be received beginning at 11:00 AM until a Memorial Service for Mac is celebrated by Deacon Anthony F. DiLorenzo at 12:00 Noon.
