Helen Reid Abiva's Obituary
Helen Reid Abiva was born May 17, 1936 in Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland. She passed away March 19, 2016 at the age of 79 due to complications of surgery. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother. Helen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Teodorico A. Abiva; son, Teodorico R. Abiva (daughter-in-law Teresa); daughter, Shari R. Sherman (son-in-law, Tim); grandchildren, Evan and Leila.Helen came to the United States in 1964 and met her husband Ted in Key West, Florida. They moved to San Diego, California and got married in 1966. She was a dedicated mother and Navy wife. Helen loved to embrace her heritage by attending Scottish Highland Games. She enjoyed walking along the beach collecting seashells. Her favorite places included Hilton Head and Sanibel Island. She was an avid reader of inspirational books. She enjoyed going to art shows and antiquing. She occasionally liked going along with her husband as he played golf. She had a humorous personality and was a huge fan of the TV show Seinfeld. Helen and Ted moved to Fort Myers from Casselberry, Florida after retiring in 2001.Arrangements by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907.
