Helene Marie Hendel's Obituary
Helene Marie Hendel of Port Charlotte and formerly of Saint James City, Florida passed away peacefully while under Hospice care and with her loving family by her side on Thursday, July 20, 2017 following some chronic health challenges. She was 93 years old.Helene was born on December 2, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio, the beautiful daughter of Sarah (Theiss) and Michael Lindert. She was one of the many proud women who served as “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II and helped our great nation build the Arsenal of Democracy and assure an Allied victory over the Germans and Japanese. She later worked in the steel industry where she pioneered the use of some of the world’s first computers as a Comptometer operator in the accounting and payroll section. She was the loving to and leaves behind her cherished husband Richard M. Hendel; son Dale (Colleen) Hendel; son-in-law Chris Jacobs; daughter-in-law Laura Hendel; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was predeceased by her daughter Susan Jacobs and son Richard Hendel.A Memorial Service for Helene will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 24, 2017 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received for one hour preceding this service beginning at 1:00 PM also inside the funeral home chapel.
