Henry Krogh Hansen's Obituary
Henry Krogh Hansen, 94, of Fort Myers , passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorthea Virginia Hansen, siblings Edwin, Norris, Esther and Arthur and son-in-law Anthony Kalinowski . Henry was born February 16, 1921 to Olga and Neils Hansen. He grew up in East Boston MA and was the fourth of a family of 5 children. From age 6 to 90, Henry owned some kind of boat, a rowboat, sailboat, or motorboat. Henry attended Boston University where he joined ROTC, majored in business, and met Dorthea Bertelsen (Dot), the love of his life. He served in the Army and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He came home to Boston , married Dot, settled in Belmont MA , and raised two daughters. He worked for Liberty Mutual in Boston, and served in the National Guard, retiring after 27 years as a Lt. Colonel. He built a summer house in Kingston MA, with the help of his brothers and family. He was especially happy there, where he could boat, fish, and do home handyman projects that he loved. He and Dot retired to Fort Myers Fl at Shell Point Retirement Community 19 years ago where they found a wonderful life that allowed them to do all things they liked to do. They had great friends and lived a full life that included fishing, boating, working in the wood shop, playing bridge, working with the “Suzy-Q”, and being a Court Representative. More than anything, Henry loved a good joke. For a number of years, Henry and Dot performed as a comedy act, “Hans and Han’s son”, with Henry telling jokes and Dot playing her “fiddle”. Henry is survived by his daughters Nancy (Connolly) and Barbara (Kalinowski) who loved him dearly, son-in-law Mark Connolly Sr, grandson Mark Jr and wife Tiffany, grandson Greg Connolly, granddaughters Kate Kalinowski and Sarah Booz and husband Rob, great grandson Miles Anthony Fletcher (son of Kate), son-in-law Timothy McGrath, and step grandchildren Michael, Kevin, and Kathryn McGrath. He was beloved “Uncle Henry” to many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Village Church at Shell Point, on October 24th at 10:15am. All are welcome.
