Homer David Parkhill's Obituary
Homer David Parkhill, 78, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on December 1, 2024, after enduring several challenging years with Alzheimer’s Disease. David was born April 23, 1946, to Homer C. and Ann (Renz) Parkhill in Pontiac, Illinois. He married Jane Clevenger on August 17, 1968 and had two daughters, Amity and Kelly. He will be fondly remembered for his story-telling and sense of humor; and everywhere he went, he made life-long friends.
David graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1964. He attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN, where he graduated in the class of 1969. David was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and he was a “Life Loyal Sig” who kept in touch with his fraternity brothers throughout his life.
David had a long career in marketing of housewares and office supplies, working at companies throughout northern Illinois. In his free time, he enjoyed relaxing in his pool, watching Indy racing, grilling a steak, working on his yard and house, and enjoying a fine glass of wine or scotch with a cigar. He was known for having the most perfectly manicured lawn in the neighborhood.
Upon retiring, David and Jane moved to Florida to the Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club, which they have called home since 2012. David and Jane made many new friends in Florida and enjoyed the sun and social life. David passed his time playing golf, working on several Heritage Palms committees, eating peel-and-eat shrimp, and drinking rum runners on the Florida gulf coast. He enjoyed working part-time at Legends Golf Club as a starter and ranger.
David is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Homer C. and Ann Parkhill. David leaves behind his loving wife, Jane, of Fort Myers, FL; two daughters, Amity (Paul) Tarrants of Franklin, TN, Kelly (Rob) Cameron of St. Charles, IL; five grandchildren, Katherine, Anna, and Abigail Tarrants and Ryan and Cara Cameron. One sister, Carol (Steve) Murphy of Vancouver, WA, as well as extended family members and many close friends that were like family.
His funeral will be held on Monday December 9, 2024, at 11:00 am at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, IL. with Rev. Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday December 9, 2024. David will be laid to rest at Southside Cemetery in his hometown of Pontiac Illinois.
