Horst retired at age 58 where he spent his time with family, while traveling between Warren and Ft. Myers for the summer and winter seasons, respectively.
He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, do it yourself projects, listening to German and classical music, and watching western films. Horst was known for his sense of humor and seeing others laugh. Those that met Horst knew him as a kind and gentle man, one who cared about everyone, especially his family. He instilled those values into the childhood development of his grandchildren, as with early retirement he was fortunate to spend many weekends and summer vacations with them. Everyone at his condominium complex in Florida knew Horst, and the outpour of love after his passing was profound. Above all else, Horst was the best husband, Opa, and friend.
