Ilie Lewis Torson's Obituary
Lew Torson of Cape Coral, Florida passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 following a recent illness. He was 93 years old.Lew was born on November 28, 1920 in Detroit Michigan, the son of Savetta (Chernet) and Dimitri Torson. He was educated at the University of Michigan and was employed by Ford Motor Company in the Engineering Department. He worked for Ford for over 40 years retiring in 1980. He continued to work 5 more years after retiring assisting with new product launches. In 1942, he married Viola Motz and they raised two sons and recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. Lew was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He loved to fish and golf and was a member of the Ford Motor Company Golf League and the Golf Ministry through church. Lew was a Deacon at the Romanian Baptist Church in Michigan and was a member of the McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers. Wherever he was he sang in the choirs for many years praising his Saviour through song and loved his Life Group class.Lew is survived by his wife Vi, his sons Douglas of Cape Coral and Rodney of Michigan; his grandchildren Kari Ann Torson and Tracy Lynn and great grandson Jacob Tyler. He also leaves behind a number of extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers John and Frank and his niece Betty Loos.A Visitation will be conducted from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2014 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Immediately following, a Memorial Service will be celebrated by Officiant Phil Trexler at 2:00 PM also in the chapel. At the conclusion of services, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Ilie will be entombed in the Serenity Mausoleum.Those who wish to offer a tribute in honor of Ilie or extend condolences to the family are urged to visit his memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign the guestbook.
