Irene Burch Rensing's Obituary
Irene Burch Rensing, 81, of Sebring, Florida, passed away June 11, 2023, after her battle with cancer.
Irene was born to Joseph A. Burch and Helen Burch (Pouleris) on April 13, 1942, United States Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. Irene lived in Quantico, VA, Bermuda, and Jacksonville, NC, and finally, settled in Fort Myers, FL in 1957. She was part of the graduating class of 1960, at Ft Myers Sr High School.
Irene was a devoted, hard-working mother that didn’t shy away from all the challenges of a single parent. Her work life brought her to Ft Myers Community Hospital, JM Air Conditioning, Dean Steel Buildings, and many part-time jobs before her career with the City of Ft Myers began. In 2008, Irene retired from the City Clerk's Office.
In 1982, Irene met her husband, Ralph. In 1983, they began their four-decade journey as husband and wife. They began to travel and spend time with family and friends. In 2008, Irene and Ralph relocated to Sebring, FL. She enjoyed volunteering, traveling, and spending more time with family and friends. What bothered her the most about her battle with cancer was that it robbed her of time (quality and quantity) that she could spend with family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her father, J.A. Burch, and mother, Helen Burch (Pouleris). Irene is survived by her husband, Ralph Rensing, and Children; Paul Leach (Michelle), and Theresa Irene Bidoul. Grandchildren; James Leach, Leah Bahia, Elisabeth Leach, Cristal Bidoul, and Vanessa Greenwell. Great grandchildren: Skyler Wendorff, Taylor Leach, Zachary O’Donoghue, Riley Gerth, Aurelia Bahia, Jefferson Leach, Alexandria Greenwell, and Lydia Hernandez.
Besides her loving nature, she possessed pointed, sarcastic humor (sometimes unnoticed), along with the way she articulated her opinions on practical, social, and political issues. She developed a hunger for biblical truth and would become frustrated with shallow answers to direct questions. When she would find something, she didn’t know or went against previous beliefs, she would say, “The word of God is the final authority. That settles it”. She appreciated engaging in many long, fruitful discussions and provoking thoughts.
In short, Irene lived the best life she could. She taught us the importance of working for what you get, and that imperfection was all right, but never stop improving yourself and your situation. She learned from her failures and shared her victories. We are all beneficiaries of having her in our lives and hearts. Irene will always be part of those that she touched.
