Irene Walker's Obituary
Irene Hazel (Joia) Walker, born January 16, 1943, in Wareham, MA, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on September 24, 2024, in Naples, Florida. Irene, the youngest of 11 children born to Manuel and Fannie (Britto) Joia, was a person whose life was anchored by her deep love for family and her zest for life.
Throughout her life, Irene embraced a variety of passions that reflected her lively spirit and warm personality. From her early days of bike riding, baton twirling, ice skating, and cheerleading, to her talents in sewing and playing the piano, she brought joy and energy to everything she did. Known for her exceptional cooking and dancing skills, Irene made every holiday special and loved hosting gatherings that were filled with music, particularly the Cape Verdean tunes she adored. She cherished being at the ocean, often cooking breakfast on the beach, and enjoyed riding their Goldwing Motorcycle across the country. Her travels to Jamaica with her children and grandchildren were among her most cherished experiences.
Irene's life was a testament to kindness and connection, often surrounded by golden retrievers, and she left a lasting impact on everyone she met with her infectious smile and generosity.
Irene is survived by her husband, Maynard Walker of Naples, Fl.; her sister, Tina (Roderick) Raneo of Dennisport, Ma; her brother, Manuel Joia Jr. of CA.; her children, Pam DeMayo and husband Mike of Orleans, Ma; Andrea Gonsalves McCallum of Easthampton, MA.; Harold Gonsalves Jr. and wife Aprale of VA.; and her three grandchildren, Robert Charbonneau Jr., Tess Joia McCallum, and
