Isaac B. Short's Obituary
Isaac B. Short, age 91, died peacefully in Tampa on Thursday, June 26, 2014. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 29, 1923 and was a decorated war veteran of World War Two serving as a “cannoneer” in the 327th Field Artillery Battalion, 84th Infantry Division who participated in the Battle of the Belgium Bulge as well as several other battles across Germany. After the war, in 1946, Isaac married the love of his life, Marie Miller Short and in 1963 the family moved to Fort Myers. Isaac retired in 1978 after 32 years of employment with the US Postal Service and spent many years in retirement enjoying family and friends.Isaac is survived by Marie, his devoted wife of 67 years; his daughter Sharron Oakes and her husband Neil; his son Dennis Short and his wife Crista. Four grandchildren: Shari Oakes-Tomlinson, Christopher Oakes, Tyler Short, and Kevin Short. Three great-grandchildren: Hunter Tomlinson, Georgia Tomlinson and Marin Oakes.A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Monday, June 30, 2014 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida, (239) 936-0555. A Memorial Service will then be celebrated at 11 AM. Upon conclusion of the service, friends and family will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Mr. Short will be laid to rest.Those who wish to express condolences to the family at this difficult time are urged to visit Mr. Short’s memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign the guestbook.
