Jack Carver Sr.'s Obituary
Jack C. Carver, Sr., M.D., 82, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, March 12, 2010. Born in Los Angeles, Dr. Carver was a longtime local physician known for his kind spirit and gentle manner. He was the son of the late James R. and Vivette P. Carver and was predeceased by two wives (Terri and Hanni). He is survived by his four children Jack Jr. (Alene) of Fort Myers, Vivette Cardenas (Carlos) of Colorado Springs, CO, Bruce (Robin) of Seminole, FL, Dr. Deirdre Carver-Raffa (Paul) of Naples and seven grandchildren. Other surviving family members are his twin brother and three sisters.Dr. Carver served honorably in W.W. II. He graduated from New York’s Columbia University and then attended The Chicago Medical School from which he received his medical degree in 1956. Practicing Internal Medicine in Massapequa, NY, he moved his family to Cape Coral in 1971.“Dr. Jack,” as many knew him, later joined the emergency room staff at Lee Memorial Hospital. While there, he was instrumental in establishing Lee County’s Emergency Medical Service and served as that agency’s first medical director. Besides Lee Memorial, Dr. Carver served patients at Southwest Regional and the Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic. He also taught advanced lifesaving training throughout Southwest Florida.A resident of Cypress Cove, Dr. Carver was an avid gardener and loved orchids, bromeliads and cacti. An environmentalist, he bought Bokeelia acreage in the 1990s that was later purchased by Lee County’s 20/20 program and is now known as The Carver Preserve. He was a member of St. Hilary’s Church.A celebration of Dr. Carver’s life will take place at St. Hilary’s, 5011 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 with the Rev. Bob Hennagin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in his name to St. Hilary’s. The family also deeply thanks the many wonderful caregivers at Cypress Cove who watched over Dr. Carver for so many years.
