Jack Edwin Garrett's Obituary
Jack Edwin Garrett, 88, of Fort Myers, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017, following an extended illness. He was born January 1, 1929 in New Harmony, IN and moved to Florida from New Jersey in 2013, where he and his wife had lived since 1964. He served in the United States Air Force from 1946 – 1949 where he taught radar. He attended Purdue University from 1949 – 1952 where he received his B.S. Degree in Chemistry and then in 1954, received his M.S. in Chemistry, also at Purdue. In 1952, he married Leora Pacl. Their 65th anniversary would have been January 26. Together, they had two children: Debbie and Steve. Debbie passed away in 2012. He began working at Western Electric/AT&T in 1954, later becoming Director of Documentation until his retirement 1990. In 1968, he received his MBA at NJIT. From 1971 – 1973, he was President of the Madison, NJ Board of Education. Upon his retirement, he and Leora moved to Cypress Cove Retirement Community in Fort Myers. Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leora P. Garrett and his son, Steve Garrett. Mr. Garrett will be laid to rest in his hometown of New Harmony, IN at a later date.
