James Arthur Donnelly's Obituary
James Arthur Donnelly, age 90, of Fort Myers, FL and East Wakefield, NH, formerly of Point of Pines, Revere, answered his last roll call on Thursday, January 29th at Hope Hospice House of Fort Myers. He was the eldest son of James A. Donnelly, Sr., and Olive Ruth (Hand). He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and during World War II saw action in all of the major battles for the North Atlantic and Pacific. For 73 years he has stayed in contact with the men he met in boot camp and with whom he served aboard the USS EMMONS. Returning to civilian life after the Korean Conflict he eventually went to work for the Department of the Army. In the early 1970’s he moved to Washington, DC, where he became the Chief of Contract Property Management for the Defense Logistics Agency. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Virginia (Ladd), children from a previous marriage, his brother David, sister Shelia, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both parents, a daughter Stacey Ellen, sisters Ann Marie and Dorothy, and brothers Edwin and Robert. He was a man who lived his life with courage and dignity. At his request there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will be at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
