James Robert Black Jr., "Bob"'s Obituary
James Robert Black Jr., more commonly known as “Bob” to his family and friends, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, September 20, 2018 following some recent medical challenges. He was 83 years old.Bob was born on June 10, 1935 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the proud son of Josephine E. (Hammel) and James R. Black Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army and spent his working life as a Surveyor and Engineer in the construction field. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Freida D. (Gill) Black; loving sons James R. Black III (Renee) and Jeffrey L. Black (Leesa); son-in-law Larry J. Laferriere; treasured grandchildren Landon Black, Amanda Black, Rachel D. (Laferriere) Drake (Christopher), Kevin Laferriere (Lauren), Christopher Black and Kayla Black; three great grandchildren Avonlea Drake, Scarlett Drake and Beau Drake and his brother Larry Dale Black (Janet). Sadly, he was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Sue Laferriere who passed away in 2016 and brother Jerry Lee Black Sr. (Naomi) who died in 1985..A Memorial Service for Bob will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 29, 2018 at Gulf Coast Church of Christ, 9550 Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33966. Guests will be received for an hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM also at the church. Bob will be laid to rest during a private service at the mausoleum located inside the Garden of Peace at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fort Myers.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Bob’s honor be directed to the Benevolent Fund at Gulf Coast Church of Christ or to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.Arrangements for Bob’s final care have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555.
