James Lavaston Hartzog's Obituary
James Lavaston Hartzog, of North Fort Myers, passed peacefully at the age of 81 on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. James was born June 26, 1941, to George and Agnes (Martin) Hartzog in Rayville, Louisiana.
James devoted many years to serving his country in the United States Air Force, when he retired from the military in the late 70's he continued to work as a supply services superintendent for the Department of Defense. He then retired from the US postal service in 2003. James' passion was being a patriot and traveling. He was always enjoying life around the world, living on 4 different continents throughout his life and visiting numerous countries. He first moved to Florida in 1992, he and his wife Gloria moved to many different states shortly after. In 2009 they finally decided on Florida as their forever home. That never stopped James and Gloria from traveling, they enjoyed many trips across all 50 states and a plethora of cruises. Aside from traveling James was an avid fisherman, reader, card player, and at times worked on refinishing furniture. Above all, James loved his family, friends, country, and cooking Cajun food especially gumbo.
James is preceded in passing by his parents, brothers William and Robert, and sisters Beatrice, LaVerne, LaVonne, Betty Jo, and Bobbie Sue.
James leaves his loving memory with his survivors wife Gloria, sons Rusty (Tracy), Mike (Suzanne), Nolan (Virginia), Gary (Meghan), Terry, and Josh (Jessica), sister Patsy Ruth, Aunt Ollie Rae, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James' fami9ly has entrusted Fort Myers Memorial Gardens with the care of his final arrangements. There will be a memorial service held Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10AM in the Chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
