James Michael Hogsten's Obituary
James Michael Hogsten, better known just as "Mike" to his family and friends, said good-by to his loved ones and to this life on March 26, 2024 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky on February 15, 1947, the son of Jim and Maggie Hogsten. He was married to Paula Hogsten and had 1 son Michael Hogsten (Tina).
Mike graduated from Paul Blazer High School in Ashland, KY and attended Ashland Community College. He was a proud Navy Veteran. Mike retired from AK Steel in 2002 as a Steam Power Engineer and eventually moved to Florida for sunshine, golf, card games, many friendships and, in general, a well laid-back lifestyle.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his wife Paula and his son Mike of whom he was very proud and loved with all his heart. He also leaves 3 grandchildren: Lauren Deal, Matt Hogsten and Courtney Monroe (Chris) and 2 great grandchildren: Emma Rose and Brady Monroe. Mike leaves behind 2 brothers: Anthony Hogsten (Karen) and Lee Hogsten (Rae); his brother-in-law Bill Blanton (Toni) and sister-in-law Barbara Perkins (John).
To the everlasting gratitude of his younger brothers Tony and Lee Hogsten, God broke the mold after Mike was born. They were often the unwitting victims of pranks that no doubt taught them much and saved them from many mistakes in life.
Mike will be sadly missed by family and friends. Arrangements for Mike's final care and cremation have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. A Celebration of Life will be announced later.
In memory of Mike, you may consider a donation to your local No Kill Shelter or to the Wounded Warrior Association. Alternatively, go out, have a good dinner and dredge up a few memories that include Mike.
