James "Mac" McLaughlin's Obituary
James M. “Mac” McLaughlin of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 in Cape Coral Hospital. He was 89. Mac was born Wednesday, February 23, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York the youngest of seven children to the late George M. and Mary McLaughlin. A proud WWII veteran, Mac enlisted August 2, 1944 in the U.S. Navy and served until his honorable discharge June 10, 1946. He earned One Star each for tours of duty in the Philippine Liberation and the Asiatic-Philippine campaign. He also received the Victory Medal in the American Theatre of Operation and was discharged with the rank of Radarman Third Class. After his return from serving in the Navy, he met and married his darling bride, Norrine A. Terry. He worked 17+ years as a manager in the catalog division of J. C. Penney. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8857, American Legion Post #22 and he was a devoted member of St. Therese Parish, North Fort Myers, FL. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters. Mac is survived by his devoted wife of 69+ years, Norrine; their daughters, Janet Hoffay (Thomas W.), Carol Iezzi (Roy Gaskill) and Mary Ellen Haytcher (Nathaniel). He is the loving grandfather of Anthony (Heather), Cassie (Rich), Michelle and Christine (Angel) and the great grandfather of Anthony, Smith, Tressel and Taylor. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Monday, February 20, 2017 at St. Therese Catholic Church 20115 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers, FL 33903. There will be no visitation. Interment will immediately follow in the Veteran’s Lawn Crypts in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907.
