James A. Thompson's Obituary
James A. Thompson of Fort Myers, FL passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Hope Hospice HealthPark in Fort Myers. He was 92. He was born September 21, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY to the late William J. Thompson and Catherine Crossey Thompson. James joined the US Navy November 29, 1942 serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam before his retirement July 31, 1968 as Lieutenant Commander. During his 27+ year tenure in the navy, he earned several medals and ribbons for his service including: the National Defense Service Medal, the European Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (4 times), Philippine Liberation (2 stars), The American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific (7 stars), Navy Occupation Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. James moved to Fort Myers in 1995 from Salem, Massachusetts. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Wasielewska Thompson (1999). James leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Kevin (Nancy) Thompson of Conyers, Ga; Holly (Christopher) McGillivary of Biddeford, ME; Larry (Donna) Thompson of Lauderhill, FL and Debra (Jay) Dagle of Salem, MA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Church of the Resurrection of our Lord 8121 Cypress Lake Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919.
