James Gerald Varner Sr.'s Obituary
James Gerald Varner Sr. of North Fort Myers, Florida passed at Gulf Coast Medical Center with his loving family by his side on Saturday, October 21, 2017 following some recent health challenges. He was 68 years old.Mr. Varner was born on March 3, 1949 and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years Mary Ann (Myrt), his daughter Angela and son-in-law Mike, his son James Jr, and his son Daniel and daughter-in-law Jackie. Grandkids are Michael, Austin, Christian, DJ, Tanner, Delilah (Dilly) and Taylor. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Sadly, he was predeceased by parents John and Violet Varner, sister June, Brothers John and Tim. In his early years he enjoyed working on and racing cars. He met his wife in 1967, they married in 1968 and they started raising their family. He became a Mercer County corrections officer and then retired to Florida 20 years ago. He was an avid member of the NRA, enjoyed being at the shooting range and riding his motorcycle. His other hobbies include riding his motorcycle, fishing, canoeing and playing with his grandkids. He was a member of St Therese Parish in North Fort Myers where he volunteered for the food pantry. James had the uncanny ability to fix anything and to learn how things work and utilized these life long skills to start a nonprofit to help disadvantaged people.A Memorial Service for James will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received for two hours preceding this service beginning at 11:00 AM also inside the funeral home chapel.
