A service celebrating Jan's life will be held Friday May 22, 2020 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens funeral home; 1589 Colonial Blvd. Immediately follow the viewing. Internment will be in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Jan Lambert DeGooijer was born on July 6,1937 to the late Gerrit Jan De Gooijer and Cornelia Doorn of Huizen,Noord Holland,Netherlands.
He was a Veteran of the Dutch Army where he served 2 years in the Artillery department, and would go on to be a true Professional in the Shoe Industry; by the age of 20, he was managing his own store. He also designed shoes & worked with Designers in Italy to bring the newest Shoes on the market.
At 31, Jan was promoted to the Director of Bata Canada, & the Continent of Europe.
He started his own Corporation Mayfair International,Tilburg Netherlands.
He traveled worldwide and was fluent in Italian German, French, English, Dutch and Flemmish.
In 1981, Jan immigrated to Florida where He started a chain of Sporting good stores in Kissimmee that he operated up until 1994. After that he started a new profession in the banking industry and In 1997, He and his sons moved to Cape Coral Florida to start a new chapter.
Within a few years, he became one of the companies top producers.
This would be his profession up until his retirement in 2008.
Throughout his years in Business, Jan was generous & always gave back. He was a huge Sponsor of the Detroit Tigers & Houston Astros 1981-1989. Not only was he was honored as the Best Sponsor of Osceola Highschool in the early 80’s, but the DeGooijer family took the Osceola state champions Basketball team and the runner up Football team to the Orange Bowl; This was one, of the many events, actions on how he gave back to the local community.
He is Survived by 6 children; Berry, Erika, Joyce, DeGooijer (The Netherlands)
Julien, Vincent, Dustin (USA); 12 Grandchildren; as well as the brother of; Jan DeGooijer (Deceased), Hannie DeGooijer Mooiweer, Pia DeGooijer Honing, and Jannie DeGooijer Visser.
Jan maybe gone, but he'll never be forgotten!
