Janet B. Root, 89, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL since 1995, and formerly of Theresa, NY, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Fort Myers, FL.
Janet was born on December 23, 1935, in Watertown, NY to the late Lyle and Viola (Whitford) Randall. She dedicated her professional career to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), touching countless lives with her compassion and expertise.
A proud and lifelong member of the American Legion in Philadelphia, Janet was also an enthusiastic sports fan. She cherished attending baseball games in Fort Myers and collecting autographs. Her devotion to the New York Yankees was unmatched, and she joyfully collected baseball cards and Coca-Cola memorabilia.
Janet's adventurous spirit shone through her love of cruise ships, where she indulged in gambling and BINGO. Above all, Janet's heart belonged to her family. She found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored more than anything in the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Root; her parents Lyle & Viola Randall; brother, Lyle Jr.; three sisters, Katherine, Sharon, and Cindy.
Janet is survived by her four loving children, MelodyGregory (Charles) of Theresa, NY and North Fort Myers, FL, John Robinson (Jean Garnsey) of Theresa, NY, Patrick Robinson (Barbara) of San Carlos Park, FL and Michael Robinson (Sally Weston) of Antwerp, NY; one brother, Robin Randall (Life Partner, Gina Grant) of Black River, NY; nine grandchildren, Diana, Brian II, Christopher, Amy, Jessica, Patrick Jr., Michelle, Michaela and Shaina; as well as great grandchildren, Kayden, Timothy, Allison, Avery, Brooklyn, Justin, Chloe and two on the way.
No formal services are planned at this time.
Janet's warmth, dedication, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and passion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion in Philadelphia or to the Red Hat Society in loving memory of Janet B. Root.
