Jean Schuetz's Obituary
Jean Schuetz, 93, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa and Ft Myers, Florida Passed away peacefully on Saturday May 18, 2024. A Memorial Mass will be schedules 11:00 AM, June 7 at St. Columbkille Church in Ft Myers, Florida.
Jean was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Lawrence and Laura Desy. She was a member of the last graduating class from Cathedral High School in 1949. Jean married Larry Schuetz and spent many wonderful years in Sioux City before moving to Florida in 2009. She was the sweetest mother and grandmother, everyone was always welcome in their home, she made sure you had enough to eat, if you weren't hungry she would send her delicious homemade treats home with you. She was one of the first volunteers at Trinity Heights, Queen of Peace. She was a participating member of Catholic Daughters for 50 years and received the honor of Catholic Daughter of the Year in 1993. She was a member of St. Jeans, St Boniface and Blessed Sacrament churches in Sioux City Iowa, St. Columbkille in Ft Myers, Florida and most recently, St. Anastasia in Hutchinson MN.
The first Catholic Mass in Sioux City was held at her great-grandfather's house, the Desy log cabin, in 1856.
Jean is survived by her sister, Louise, children Paul, Mark (Penny), Matthew (Debbie), Peggy, Diane (Jim), and Caroline. 21 (+10 spouses) grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters Beverly and Virginia, a son, Steve, and his wife, Paula, and a great grandson, Josh Jr.
Donations to Trinity Heights Queen of Peace Shrine in Sioux City, Iowa are preferred in lieu of flowers.
