Jean Eubank Shaffer Teeter's Obituary
Jean Eubank Shaffer Teeter (84) passed away at home, Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Jean was born in Ft. Myers, FL on November 14, 1927 but lived a majority of her early childhood with her family on Marco Island. Because Marco had no high school at the time, she came to live with her aunt, Winnie Doxsee and completed school at Ft. Myers Sr. High. Jean, being a 4th generation Floridian, was a part of a rich heritage of Florida natives. Her mother, Cleo was born in Labelle, FL and father Harvey was born on Marco Island. Her father was a merchant and butcher in his early years and later became a commercial fisherman and shrimper. In 1944, Jean met Otto Shaffer from Allegany, NY while he was stationed with the army at Buckingham, FL and they were soon married in 1945. ?áJean was a very talented homemaker, raising five children. She was an accomplished seamstress, gourmet cook, and loved to crochet and knit. Another of her hobbies was flower arranging.?á For several years, Jean was an insurance agent with Liberty National Life. Later, she and husband Charles Teeter ran lines of crab traps for stone crabs off Sanibel Island. Jean ran the boat and Chuck hauled in the traps! Jean was predeceased by husbands, Otto E. Shaffer, and secondly, Charles E. Teeter; son, Terry Martin Shaffer, parents Harvey and Cleo Hand Eubank, brothers, George Harvey Eubank and Harrell Eubank, and great-grandson, Christian Jeffrey Nott. Jean is survived by her children and their spouses: Gail S. Wortham (John), Cleo S. Morgan (Edward), Charles Otto Shaffer (Vicki), Marcia S.Hawkins (David) and sister, Kelly Brehmer. She is also survived by her niece, Cindy Eubank Smith (Ernest), and nephew Kyle Brehmer. Jean has nine grandchildren: Tami Nott Belcher (Philip), Wesley Trowbridge Nott, III (Jennifer), Wesley R. Wortham, Jason Pressly (Caroline), Abby Pressly Love, Jennifer Shaffer Brinkley (Matthew), Natalie Shaffer Gardner (Drew), Clayton Goldsmith, Andrew Goldsmith, Alisha Hawkins, Emily Hawkins, and eleven great-grandchildren. Jean?ÇÖs family would also like to extend a special thanks to Dawn Walker of the Hope Hospice team, the Cape Coral Hospice House and to Teresa Moreira, her home caregiver, for all the kindness and care they gave to our mother. Visitation will be held in the Colonial Family Center of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL on Saturday, April 21 from 2 to 3:00 pm, with services immediately following.?á A reception will be held following funeral services in the Tower Room of The Edison, 3583 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers.
