Dr. Jeffrey B. Neilson, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., CMD, 79, of Fort Myers, passed away August 27, 2012.?áHe was born December 29, 1932 in Bearsden, Dunbartonshire, Scotland to the late George J. and Eva (Tolson) Neilson.?á In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine (Bash) and his first wife Gwynneth (Jones) Neilson with whom they had 2 children who still survive them; daughter, Jane Eslinger and her husband Franz, granddaughter is Hilary; son, David Neilson and his wife Bonnie: grandsons are Christopher and Alexander.?áHe is also survived by his current wife, Diane (Dennis) Neilson whom he married in 1983.?áShe has two children, Jennifer and Jeffrey, wife Lisa; grandson, Evan. Dr. Neilson came to Lee County in 2001 from Chester, New Hampshire.?áHe was a member of the Church of England.?áHe graduated in 1950 from the University of Bristol Medical School in England.?áHe qualified in July of 1955 with Distinction in Public Health.?áAfter internship, he spent 2 years in the Royal Army Medical Corp where he attained the rank of Captain and was a Clinical Officer in Orthopedics.?áHe entered general practice as an assistant for 2 years and then a partner.?áIn 1969 he immigrated to the US as one of 4 original partners at the Derry Medical Center.?áHe became a US citizen and board certified.?áHe was a member from 1980 to the present Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, certified Medical Director of the American Medical Directors Association from 1997 until retirement, president of the Medical Staff from 1989 to 1991, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Parkland Medical Center, formerly known as Alexander-Eastman Hospital in Derry, New Hampshire.?áHe was very active with the American Heart Association from 1971 to 1988 and was past chairman of the cardiac care unit committee and program planning committee, advanced cardiac Life Support Membership?áCommittees and he was with the National Faculty of Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support from 1981 to 1988.?áHe was the Medical Director of 3 nursing homes in Derry and Windom, New Hampshire.?áHe was a charter board member of the New Hampshire Nursing Home Medical Directors Association from 1993 till his retirement in 2001. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907.?áInterment will follow in the cemetery.
