JoAnne James' Obituary
JoAnne James, 90, passed away July 7 in her apartment at Calusa Harbour. JoAnne was born in Souix City, lowa, and the early part of her life was spent in La Mars, lowa. During her teenage years, her family moved to Tampa, Florida, where she graduated from Hillsborough High School and married William James Jr. She moved to Ft. Myers in 1963 where, except for a few years in the 1970s, she resided until her death. JoAnne was employed for many years at GE in Ft. Myers. She was a member of St. Cecilia's
Catholic Community, where she volunteered in the office for a number of years. She especially enjoyed her Bunco group which played monthly for decades. Another of her great joys was feeding and adopting stray cats. JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband, William James Jr.
Her surviving family includes her son, William James of Ft. Myers, her two daughters, Linda Jo James of Vancouver, Washington, and Mary James
Lewis and her husband, Joe, of Asheville, North Carolina, her granddaughter, April Mellen, and husband, Dan, and their two sons Koufax and Ozzie. Of her seven siblings two remain.
JoAnne's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 21, at 10 AM
at St. Ceclia's Catholic Church on Sunrise Dr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Cecilia's.
