John Blomquist's Obituary
John Howard Blomquist of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the age of 94. He is survived by?áhis loving wife, Dolores Storrs Blomquist, who he has been married to since June 1940. John graduated with a PH. D from Ohio State in 1941. John spent his entire professional career with the Textile Fibers Department of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co.; starting in the Nylon Research Section at the Wilmington Experimental Station and serving various management assignments in laboratories and plants in Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, returning to the main office in Wilmington as one of its Assistant Technical Directors. He was associated with research, developement and manufacturing of Nylon, “Dacron” polyester, “Lycra” elastomeric, “Orlon” acrylic fibers and spun-bonded “Typar” and “Reemay”?á fabrics. Upon retirement, John moved to Cape Coral and later moved to ShellPoint Village in Lee County, Florida. He was active in Civic affairs in Cape Coral as a director of the Civic Association and as a member of several city committees. He also served on the Session of Faith Presbyterian Church and on several committees of the West Florida Presbytery. Upon moving to ShellPoint Village, John joined the Village Church of the Christian and Mission Alliance serving as an usher, communion steward, and member of the financial committee. In addition he was a member of the Chemists’ Society of Southwest Florida and its successor the Scientists’ Society of Southwest Florida. At ShellPoint Village, John served a term as Junonia Representative on the village residents’ council and as secretary of the council. He volunteered?á at the UPS desk, the village library, and the Stamp Ministry. Memorial Services will be on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 11:00am at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
