John Coe Browning's Obituary
John Coe Browning, 93, a resident of Cape Coral, Fl since 1995, formerly of Toledo, OH passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024 under the care of Hope Hospice. John was the son of Justus and Adelyn (Lockhart) Browning.
John grew up in the Old Orchard neighborhood of Toledo and was a 1948 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. He attended Indiana University then went on to graduate from the Southern Airways School. He married Patricia M. Gettins in1952 while serving as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. After leaving the service, John returned to Toledo to work in the family business J.M.Browning and Sons. This construction field introduced him to his primary avocation of car wash ownership. John’s interests included the residential developments of Sleepy Hollow and Byrnwyck Country Club, both in Lucas County Ohio. He was a member of Rotary and the Toledo Chamber of Commerce.
John remarried in 1993 to Sandra Burkholder eventually relocating to Cape Coral, Florida where he was active in boating and euchre clubs. Sandra and John enjoyed the company of good friends, going on cruises, attending hockey games, theater and comedy clubs. In 2002 John went back to work as a bus driver for the Lee County Schools. A position that he proudly held for a number of years. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Toledo and Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in North Fort Myers. John will be missed by all that knew him.
John was preceded in death by his wife Sandra (Burkholder), Patty Browning, son Judd Lockhart Browning, brother Robert (Pete) W. Browning and sister Joan Anderson. John is survived by his son, John Coe Browning, Jr. and wife Nancy, two grandchildren, Jace and Griffin (Christine) and nieces and nephews. Services will be held privately.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
