John Brandt Cantieny's Obituary
John Brandt Cantieny, 82, of Fort Myers died September 14, 2014. Born in St. Paul, MN, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation from St. Louis Park High School. Following combat service in Korea he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and during the next 26 years completed numerous staff and command assignments both in the United States and overseas. Reporting to Vietnam in 1968, Major Cantieny commanded an artillery battalion with the 1st Marine Division. He retired as a LT. Colonel in 1976. His personal decorations included the Silver Star and Legion of Merit with Combat “V”. He is survived by daughter Carrie Keohane (James) of Fort Myers and son Chuck Cantieny (Kathy) of Cape Coral; four grandchildren, Amber Williams (Mathew), Ashley Cantieny, Christopher Cantieny, and Reiyn Keohane; great granddaughter, Mackenzie Williams and a sister, Elizabeth Gaines of Snoqualmie, Washington. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery is serving the family.
