John Christopher “Coach” Doherty, 80, of Fort Myers, FL died February 7, 2017 at Hope Hospice House. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 11, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2057 S. Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33901. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2017 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907. Burial will be at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to Hope Hospice House. John was born April 13, 1936 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the son of Daniel and Rosina (Dempster) Doherty. He married Ann McCluskey, February 23, 1963 in Union City, NJ. John was a veteran of the US Army. He later become a successful small business owner and real estate broker. John was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers, FL. He was also the founder of the Fort Myers Boxing Club, which formed in 1977. He had become a mentor and coach to countless young men of the Dunbar, East Fort Myers and North Fort Myers communities. Surviving are his wife Ann (McCluskey) Doherty of Fort Myers, FL; children, Annia Fleming of Fort Myers, FL, Therese Everly and her husband Todd of Cape Coral, FL, Deirdre Doherty of Port Joe, FL, Grainne Tolliver and her husband of Patrick of Oldsmare, FL; grandchildren, Caira Everly, Sean, Zachary, and Luke Fleming and Hayden and Kennedy Tolliver.
