Dr. John J., on October 5, 2025, age 93, of St. Petersburg, and formerly of Ft Myers FL, Brooklyn, Malverne, Rockville Centre, Montauk, and Southampton NY, sadly left our world after a life richly lived in service and kindness. Born on March 23, 1932 in Giuliana, Sicily. Beloved husband of Margaret Josephine.
Loving father of nine children. Rosalie (Michael) Carousso, Clare (Thomas) Merrick, Joseph Cossentino, John T. Cossentino, Mark (Priscilla) Cossentino, Matthew Cossentino, Susan Cossentino, Stephen Cossentino, and Diane (Mark) Hallock. Cherished grandfather of Ari, Gibson, Mackenzie, Cameron (Rose), Chloe, Amelia, John A., Mia, Sophia, Giovanni, Ethan, Emma, and John S. Proud great-grandfather of Annie and Archie Merrick. Also, survived by many loving relatives and friends. World traveler, avid gardener and cook, choir singer and habitual whistler. Retired Captain in the US Army. Distinguished student and graduate of St. John’s Prep, Niagara University, and Georgetown Medical School. Respected surgeon at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre NY, South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside NY, and Chief of Surgery at Southampton Hospital, Long Island, NY. A private funeral Mass will be held in Montauk, NY, at some point in November. Details to follow on social media in the near future.
