John Russell "Cowboy" Cowan's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Russell “Cowboy” Cowan, age 72, of Fort Myers, FL, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at his residence.
Born on April 16, 1952, in Fort Wayne, IN, John was the son of the late William and Nylla (Wolff) Cowan. He resided in Fort Myers, FL, since 2014, following a fulfilling life in his hometown of Fort Wayne, IN.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction and also took on the honorable role of a chaplain. His dedication to supporting fellow veterans was unwavering, and he found great joy in being a source of comfort and support to those who served. He served as a Pastor for 35 years and was very active in the youth ministry within his church.
A man of many passions, John loved country music, riding his Harley, enjoying the great outdoors, and having a good time. He found immense pleasure in playing golf, spending time at the beach, shooting pool and playing corn hole. He was known for his spirited personality and being a "real piece of work," always bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
Cowboy's love for his family was paramount, and his bond with his grandchildren ran even deeper. His generosity, kindness, and willingness to help others left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
An avid supporter of President Donald Trump and a follower of Fox News, John was deeply invested in politics. He served as a chaplain at the Lehigh VA through the American Legion, where he continued to extend his compassion and guidance to fellow veterans.
Cowboy is survived by his four loving children, Jacob Cowan (Cami) of Moorsville, IN, Jennifer Cashore (Jayme) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Jessica Bollet of Albion, IN and Rebecca Parrish (Shea) of Auburn, IN; his siblings, Daniel Windtree, Susan Guyer (Mike) and Mark Cowan; 12 grandchildren, Madison, Noah, Sean, Connor, Natanie, Leland, Kyleigha, Danielle, Karsen, Korbin, Lynnlee and Brea; one great grandchild, Enzo; as well as his partner in life, Jackie Tripp.
There will be a Celebration of Life, Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the American Legion, 1124 Ashlar Avenue, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.
John “Cowboy” Cowan will be remembered for his infectious enthusiasm for life, his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and his profound impact on the lives of many.
