John Otto Dietrich Jr.'s Obituary
John Otto Dietrich Jr., 77, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 26, 2021. He was a resident of Johnstown, New York and Cape Coral, Florida.
Mr. Dietrich was born in Paterson, New Jersey on July 14, 1944, the son of the late John Otto and Derah Dora Elsa (Wenger) Dietrich, Sr. He was a 1962 graduate of Johnstown High School in New York.
John was a Vietnam Era Navy veteran. He was employed for over 36 years with the State of New York and retired from the Department of Taxation and Finance as Director of the Personal Income Tax Application Development Unit. He also served for many years as the President of the Concordia Singing Society where he was a lifetime member, The Forresters, Fulton County Republican Committee, his beloved motorcycle club, and many other service organizations.
Family was an important part of his life. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going out to dinner, attending community events, going to the shooting range with Skip, and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He always loved a good joke and telling stories about his younger days — and, boy were there some good ones! He will be missed by Wendy's and Harley Davidson shops near and far.
John is predeceased by his parents; wife Barbara Ann Dietrich (Dicruttalo); grandson, Joseph; and nephew, Paul Jr.. He is survived by his son, John Marcellus (Virginia); daughter, Brandy Johns (Daniel); six grandchildren (Bailey, Michael, Emily, Ashley, Nicholas, and Daniel); his brother Paul Dietrich; and nephews, Mark and Kent; nieces Katrina and Robyn; and many friends including Bill and Eileen Miskinis.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2022 in New York at the convenience of his family.
Contributions should be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
