John D Haines III's Obituary
John D. Haines III of Fort Myers passed peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. John was born at his family’s home on June 17, 1935 to John Jr. and Bessie (Kuntz) Haines in Curwensville, PA.
In his younger days he worked for his father’s engineering company as a land surveyor, surveying, among other things, coal mines. John joined the US Army Reserve in 1956 and served for six years as a member of the 4th Howitzer Battalion, 92nd Artillery. He was proud of his service and always had a story to tell about that time of his life. He also worked for several years at the Pennsylvania Electric Company (PENELEC).
John and his wife, Lenora, married in 1958 and spent 53 wonderful years together until her passing in 2011. In 1968, they moved their young family to Fort Myers where John went to work for Johnson Engineering. In 1976, he was hired by Harper Brothers Construction; doing land management and permitting work until his retirement in 2000.
A longtime parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic parish, he had a very deep and steadfast faith. John also had a passion for astronomy and space exploration. In his spare time he could be found studying and reading about the space program. He was a gentleman and good conversationalist and enjoyed chatting with his neighbors and friends.
