John Bennett Hardee's Obituary
John Bennett Hardee, 81, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026. Formerly of Altamonte Springs and Jacksonville, Florida, he had been a Fort Myers resident since 1979.
John was born December 6, 1944, in Miami, Florida, the son of the late James W. Hardee and Elsie (Bennett) Hardee. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He also attended Seminole State College as he pursued his education and early career.
John began his professional career with Waste Management, where he worked from 1976 until 1989. He later dedicated 25 years as a department manager with Sam’s Club, retiring in 2014. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to both his colleagues and community.
An active and engaged member of his community, John belonged to the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. He also had a passion for gardening, taking great pride in cultivating and caring for his plants, birds, and squirrels.
Above all, John was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (Bridge) Hardee; his loving sons, Thad (Krista) Hardee and Travis Hardee, both of Fort Myers, Florida; his sister, Robin (Jack) Norris of McMinnville, Tennessee; his cherished grandchildren, Colton (Maddie), Hayden, and Hannah; and his precious great-grandson, Benjamin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Frank McClary; brothers, James Hardee and Judge Hardee; and sister, Evelyn Froden.
A Memorial Service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907.
John will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his dedication to his work and community, and his deep appreciation for the outdoors. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
