John D Matyazic's Obituary
John D. Matyazic, 83, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 2012, formerly of Bend, OR passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 15, 2020. He was born January 26, 1937 in Cleveland, OH to the late John and Olga Matyazic.
John was a proud United States Army Veteran. John started working at the young age of 10 when his father suddenly passed away. He became a mechanical engineer for General Motors, then Morrison Knudsen, followed by engineering consulting career. John enjoyed spending his days outdoors, whether sailing, boating, hiking, walking or biking, which he continued until his last days. He loved wood working and created many heirloom objects. He was most proud of his wooden canoe, which his grandchildren were able to help him with. He was an avid reader and spent hours at the local library. Most recently, he learned how to play pickle ball and enjoyed friendly matches with friends. After retirement, John spent his time volunteering for local institutions, including the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, Sidney and Berne Davis Arts Center and the local homeless shelters.
He is survived by his two loving children, Mark Matyazic of Irvine, CA and Elizabeth Roeder (Tres) of Shaker Heights, OH; two sisters, Betty Attwood (John) of Miramar Lakes, FL and Marge Farrelly of North Carolina; two adored grandchildren, Garrett and Parker Roeder; as well as many nieces and nephews.
