John E Nack's Obituary
John E. Nack, 90, of Ft. Myers, FL, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. John was born September 8, 1934 to John and Hazel (Stonebreaker) Nack in Pekin, IL.
John graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1952 where he played football and basketball. In 1970, John met and married Mary Roberta White (Bobbie) who he referred to as “the love of his life.” They were married 649 months. Their blended family is Stu Nack (Shirley), Jeff Nack (Robi), Kurt Nack (Stacy), Laura White, Bill White (Kim) and Beth Calhoun (Larry). They have been blessed with 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend.
John had a long and successful career with Caterpillar, Inc. He served four years as the President of Guidance for Users of Integrated Data-Processing Equipment (GUIDE) which was an association of 2500 corporations of users of large scale IBM computers. His position enabled him and his wife to travel internationally for four meaningful years. After 40 years with Caterpillar, Inc., he retired as the Division Manager of Corporate Processing Network and moved to Ft. Myers, FL.
Throughout his life, John was a leader who made a difference for his family, friends, business and volunteer organizations. In November 1982, he joined the Mohammed Temple Fraternal Organization and became Noble Nack 32* Shriner Mason, Valley of Peoria and Royal Order of Jesters. Additionally, he served as the Commodore of the Illinois Valley Yacht Club and was elected as a Commissioner of the Pekin Park District. John was a fabulous musician specializing in the bass and was the JAZZ band leader for several years at the Cypress Lake Country Club. He also enjoyed golfing - especially at the Club where a hole in one somehow eluded him.
He was preceded in death by Art Nack, brother, and Larry Calhoun, son-in-law. The family is thankful for all of the wonderful doctors who cared for him during his last years, as well as the kindness of Canterfield Senior Living and Vitas Hospice at Lee Memorial Hospital.
John will forever be a good, loving, kind and honorable man in everyone’s memory book. He was an every-night prayer, full of thanksgiving for his entire family and for his ability to still be with us. He was a humble and grateful believer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
The service for John will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, @ 1pm at McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33966. A graveside service will be held with the family at a later date at Lutz Cemetery in Lutz, FL.
