John Bernard Tierney's Obituary
John Bernard Tierney, 92, of North Fort Myers passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020. He was born July 15, 1928 in Providence, RI to John J. and Susan E. (McCaffrey) Tierney.
John was a devout Catholic, and firmly believed in God, the Catholic Church, his country, his family, and the Boston Redsox; John was a DIEHARD fan. In addition to, he believed in education. John studied at LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI and University of Rhode Island and obtained his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. However, prior to, John was drafted into the United States Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict; he was later honorably discharged. Professionally, John was a supervisor for Rhode Island’s Social Welfare Services; where he devoted his time to serving those less fortunate until his retirement in 1989. John will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and humble man who faced life not only responsibly, but enthusiastically.
He is survived by son, John E. Tierney (Diane), of Florida; daughter, Eraina Tierney (John Arruda), of Rhode Island; sister, Rosemary Kennedy, of Illinois; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; as well as 17 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents, John J. and Susan E. (McCaffrey) Tierney; wives, Lorraine T(Berry), and Clementina (Fontaine); sons, Michael A. Tierney and Chistopher C. Tierney.
Funeral Services will be held in Rhode Island, and are under the direction of Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, Warwick, RI. Complete service information is forthcoming.
