Joseph Harry Anthony's Obituary
Joseph Harry Anthony“A Beloved Husband, Dad & Grandpa”10/20/1940 – 8/23/2019ANTHONY, Joe – Age 78 of Fort Myers, Florida formerly of Grand Blanc, Michigan, died Friday, August 23, 2019. Joe was a beloved husband, father and grandpa. At the core of everything in Joe’s life was taking care of and spending time with his family. Joe loved camping, backpacking, and going on many other adventures throughout his life with his family. Joe graduated from Flushing High School in 1958, from the University of Michigan in 1969, and from the University of South Florida in 1996. Joe worked in the family business at Gordon Anthony Florist until his early 20’s. After graduating from U of M, he then had a very successful career as the president of Dupuis & Ryden. In 1990 he accomplished his long time goal to retire at the age of 50. During retirement Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, dancing, traveling, studying liberal arts, biking and walking. His annual Christmas letter let everyone know how he, his wife Nancy, and all of his family were doing. Christmas was an especially meaningful time because Joe and Nancy were always fortunate enough to spend time together with their entire family every year during the holidays. Joe was always quick to offer help to family in need, but he was an especially loving and selfless caretaker for his grandson Nicholas, brother Bob, and for many years his wife Nancy. Joe always enjoyed going out to dance with his beautiful wife Nancy. They had their own unique, wonderfully loving style of dance that flourished over time as they danced through life together. Joe and Nancy met at 16 at a Rock n’ Roll dance at the Mt. Morris Roller Rink in 1957 and married in 1962. They raised three wonderful boys to manhood who survive him: Joseph Scott (56), Gregory Alan (54) and Christopher Robin (49). Joseph Scott of Los Angeles, California & Kellie Taube of Oxford, Michigan have two children, Joey D & Mackenzie. Gregory & Lynn Anthony of Fort Myers, Florida also have two children, Nicholas & Jessica. Christopher is married to Willi Alzamora, both of Naples, Florida. Joe was extremely proud of his entire family. Joe and Nancy’s ashes will be scattered together at sunset just off the shore of Sanibel Island, where they enjoyed collecting shells and spending retirement together for 28 wonderful years. This sunset cruise will celebrate their life together with drinks and dinner aboard the Lady Chadwick on Sunday, December 22, 2019. Boarding will be at 4:30 PM at McCarthy’s Marina, 11401 Andy Rosse Lane, Captiva, FL 33924. The cruise will depart at 4:45 PM and return at 6:45 PM. Joe is also survived by a brother and sister: Richard (Louise Barrie) Anthony of San Francisco, California and Susie (Larry) Ridge of Flushing, Michigan.
