Joseph "Joey" Bernard Hill's Obituary
Joseph (Joey) Bernard Hill passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving mother, sister, and brother on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. All who were fortunate enough to know Joey loved him. His gentle disposition and generous heart earned him the admiration of many, young and old. Children and animals were naturally drawn to him, the luckiest of all being his son Jobie who was blessed to have spent every day with his dad and received many of his great qualities.During his 33 years on this earth, Joey accomplished so much and made so many people proud of him. After graduating from Hopewell Valley Central High School in 2004, he pursued his love of art and woodworking while learning various other trades. An artist from a young age, Joey’s beautiful drawings, sketches, carvings, and even his goofy doodles will be cherished by his family forever. Joey moved to Knotts Island, NC in 2008 and built a home and family there. Shortly after the birth of his son, Joey became an apprentice in the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 110 and worked on naval bases in the Norfolk, VA area. His apprenticeship meant long days on the job followed by long nights at trade school, but Joey welcomed the challenge and never once complained. He took great pride in his work and knew that in the long run it would provide the best life possible for him and his son, and that’s all that mattered to him and what kept him going. In July of 2018, Joey’s cancer diagnosis brought him and his son to Fort Myers, FL so he could receive the best treatment and care available. His mother, Mary Beth Hill of Taos, NM, also came with him and never left his side during his 17 month battle. In true Joey fashion, he fought his illness with bravery and great strength, and that generous heart of his never wavered. Even during some of the most difficult times, Joey always put others first. Even on a treatment day, he’d find the time to check in on his pregnant sister to see how she was feeling, or cook dinner for everyone even if he wasn’t feeling well enough to eat it.Joey’s selfless nature, kind heart, one of a kind smile, and gentle spirit has and always will be a part of all who knew him, and he will live on through his son and family who have been forever changed by the kindness he spread in his 33 years of life.Joey is survived by his wife Jennifer Miller; son, Jobie Hill; his mother, Mary Beth Hill; his sister and brother, Kristin and Jeffrey Hill; nephews Jamie Hill and Ronin Lother; his maternal grandmother Jean McLaughlin; and so many other family members and friends who adored him. Joey is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bertel Hill; paternal grandparents Joseph Bloomfield Hill and Bertina Corsgreen Hill; and maternal grandfather Joseph Bernard McLaughlin.A celebration of Joey’s life will be hosted by family at a later date in his hometown of Hopewell, NJ.To share a story or photo, leave a tribute or to offer condolences to the family at this difficult time please visit Joey’s memorial webpage at www.fortmyersmemorial.com and sign his guestbook.
