Joseph Michael Brennan's Obituary
Retired FDNY firefighter and NYPD police officer, Joseph (Joe) Brennan, 64, died at home on November 21, 2023. Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Joe was one of five children.
Joe is survived by his former wife Debra, with whom he shared four children; Brian (Jessica), Patrick, Kaitlin and Timothy. He is also survived by his six grandchildren Aodhan, Donovan, Bryce, Vivienne, Kyleigh, and Juliana. He adored and loved his children while supporting them in all of their life endeavors. Survivors include his wonderful sister whom he cherished, Catherine Caruso (Louis), his brother James (Catherine), nephews Michael Caruso, Robert Caruso and nieces, Kyle Denora and Stacey Brennan. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Ann & Arthur as well as his brothers, Vincent and Michael.
During his career, he was an NYPD Police Officer at 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge, and then went on to be a FDNY firefighter where he was first at Engine 28/Ladder 11 in Alphabet City and Rescue 5 in Staten Island. Through hard work, talent, and determination, he was successful.
After retiring from the FDNY, Joe then went on to be a Fire Safety Director at the World Trade Center, as well as a school bus driver for Pioneer. Eventually, Joe relocated to Fort Myers, Florida.
He was an avid golfer and would often go on golf outings with his FDNY buddies. Joe also enjoyed ending his days watching the history channel, and never missed a Jet’s game. He was always involved with his children’s sports and enjoyed coaching them from a young age at Snug Harbor Little League. He loved his community, and the community loved him back.
His impact on the ones that knew him was palpable and he led from a place of love and peace. He was kind to all, and judgment had no place in his heart. To know Joe Brennan was to love him. With his hilarious analogies for any situation, he would always have the room full of joy and laughter. Not only was he a dedicated father, he was an exceptional friend, brother, and son.
Joseph M. Brennan’s Memorial Mass will be held 10:45 AM, Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 1634 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, NY.
