Joseph Lido Fontana's Obituary
Joseph Lido Fontana, 89, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at American House in Fort Myers.
Born on September 22, 1936, in the Bronx, New York, Joseph was the son of the late Salvatore and Antoinette (Comparetto) Fontana. He graduated from Bronx Vocational High School and went on to build a successful career through hard work, determination, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Joseph began his professional life in custom home construction, ultimately founding Fontana Custom Homes, where he earned a reputation for quality craftsmanship while serving families throughout Long Island, New York. Later, he combined his business acumen with his love of the water as the owner of Clubhouse Marina in Bellmore, New York. A talented craftsman and problem-solver, Joseph was known by family and friends as someone who could fix just about anything. His creative skills, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Formerly of Bellmore, New York, Joseph made Fort Myers his home in 2000. He embraced the Florida lifestyle and especially enjoyed spending time on the water, boating, relaxing at the beach, and bicycling. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his family, whom he loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria (Sokolow) Fontana; his loving children, Linda Fontana of Sayville, New York, Diane (Jeffrey) Supinsky of Woodbury, New York, and Stephen (Kristine) Fontana of Fort Myers, Florida; his stepchildren, Matthew Speilberg of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Amy (Douglas) Bradshaw of Key West, Florida; his sister, Josephine Vaccaro of Roslyn, New York; his sisters-in-law, Mary Fontana of Rye, New York, Ann Fontana of North Palm Beach, Florida, and Ronnie McCorry of Fort Myers, Florida; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Emmanuel Fontana and John Fontana.A funeral service honoring Joseph's life will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907. A reception and entombment will follow.
