GORGENS, Joseph “Bud” Eugene, age 93 of Ft Myers, FL, beloved husband of Margaret (Peg) Miller Gorgens died peacefully, on March 22, 2017 at home. Mr. Gorgens was born in Bridgeport, CT, and spent his childhood in ‘Hunktown’ in what’s now the Black Rock section of Fairfield, the son of the late Adolph & Rose Kuruz Gorgens. Bud was the retired Vice President of Research & Development at Dresser Industries, Stratford, CT. Bud was a proud U.S. Army World War II veteran serving in Germany & France. A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Bud earned degrees in Electrical, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering by attending night classes for 16 years. Bud founded Alloy Engineering, which has grown into the nation’s largest thermowell supplier. Bud was Director of Engineering at Manning, Maxwell & Moore before they were purchased by Dresser Industries. Bud has numerous patents for pressure gauges and bi-metal thermometers. Bud was recognized by the University of Bridgeport as the Distinguished Alumni of 1985. He served as President of the Pinewood Lake Association in Trumbull, CT where he had a lakefront home that he designed and built himself. Following retirement, Bud moved to Marco Island, FL where he could enjoy his two favorite hobbies – fishing & tennis. Bud was president of the Commodore Club board of directors for many years and had many friends both there and Eagle Cay.Bud is survived by his children, Greg (Debbie) Dolan of Lutz, FL; Cathy Ellen (William) Meyer of Shrewsbury, MA; Bill (Ginger) Miller of Denver, CO; Michelle (John) Bayouth of Madison, WI; Dianne (Ben) Miller of Christchurch, New Zealand; Steve (Emily) Miller of Wellesley, MA; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Bud was predeceased by a son, Richard A. Gorgens of Plantation FL. Friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life service on Friday at 3 p.m. at McGregor Baptist Church 3750 Colonial Blvd Fort Myers FL. 33966.
