Joseph Loranza Guthrie's Obituary
Joseph Loranza Guthrie, 88, formerly of Estero was born May 20, 1924 in Charleston, West Virginia. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Edith Guthrie, and his brothers, Samuel Guthrie and Claude Guthrie. Joseph not only served his country in World War II in Germany but also served his Lord as children’s church leader and deacon of various churches where he lived. He leaves to cherish in memory,his loving wife of 66 years, Winnie Lambert Guthrie; his children, Deborah Guthrie Hill (Jimmy) of, Estero FL, Konnie Guthrie Cook (Roger) Taylor of Michigan and Joseph L. Guthrie II (Carol) of Jacksonville, FL; also his 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Nellie Dotson and John Guthrie of Gallipolis, OH and David Guthrie of Jacksonville, FL. Services will be held March 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Naples, 3000 Orange Blossom, Naples, Florida. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until time of service. Entombment will follow in Fort Myers Memoial Gardens Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, Florida 33908 or the First Baptist Church in Naples, Florida. Our family is proud to have been given this treasure and his life will continue to bless those he leaves behind. His heritage will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the many children he taught. Funeral arrangments are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907.
