Joseph C. Ponzio's Obituary
Joseph C. Ponzio of Cape Coral, FL passed away peacefully Monday, August 25, 2014 at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral. He was 75. He was born September 9, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Carmen Ponzio and Mary Scarlata Ponzio. He served in the US Army from January 11, 1956 until being Honorably Discharged December 4, 1958. After his discharge from the Army, Joe worked many career paths throughout his lifetime. Most often, he worked with various restaurants as a chef / grill cook. He also worked as a landscaper and was a musician (drummer) with various bands including Dale Hawkins. He coached football at St. Monica’s and served as executive director for Guerin Playground in South Philadelphia. Joe also volunteered his time with the Boy’s Club of America. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Mark Ponzio (2007). He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis DelTuffo Ponzio, 2 sons, Joe Ponzio, Jr and James Ponzio; sister, Lucy Cocucci and brother Carmen Ponzio. Funeral services will be at the family’s convenience. Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is serving the family.
