Joseph Michael Smith, 85, of N. Fort Myers, FL, died, May 6, 2016 at Coral Trace in Cape Coral. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Foundation, or American Cancer Society. Joseph was born June 12, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Michael and Sarah (Murray) Smith. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Joseph had served as a policeman, proudly with the Philadelphia Police Department. He retired in 1979. Surviving are his wife, Doris; children, Kathleen Fine and her husband Louis of Cape Coral, Joseph Smith, Jr. of Brigatine, NJ, Margaret Lawler of Philadelphia, PA, Donna Richardson and her husband James of Philadelphia, PA, Karen Mauthe and her husband John of Northfield, NJ, Kevin Smith and his wife Nicole of Cape Coral, FL; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. The Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Joseph.
