Josephine Alice Smith's Obituary
Josephine A. Smith peacefully passed away on February 8, 2026. She was 91 years old. Born in Dennison, Ohio on August 19, 1934 to Karl and Marie Zeigler, Josephine was one of eight children. After graduating from Immaculate Conception High School (Class of 1952) she was employed as a telephone operator for AT&T. She married Ronald C. Smith of Massillon, Ohio in 1957 and they had four sons: Ronald II, Richard, James, and Philip.
Jo and Ron moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Cape Coral, Florida in 1985 after he retired from Republic Steel. Mom loved working with children, and over the years she worked as a day care assistant at several local churches.
Jo was an excellent cook and a terrific baker. Every Christmas she would create an elaborate gingerbread house (from scratch) and bake Christmas cookies of all kinds by the dozens. Every time one of us had a birthday, we just had to have Mom's Red Feather Cake.
Jo was a wonderful mother and a beautiful, funny, strong, and smart lady. She and Dad sang in church choirs and belonged to bowling leagues. She adored cats and loved listening to Elvis Presley. Dad passed away in 2008; we like to think they're together again, enjoying a Brandy Alexander or two.
Jo's sons would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Windsor of Cape Coral for taking such great care of her for the last four years. We will never forget the love and respect you showed her in making her last years such good ones.
