Joyce McPherson Chancellor's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joyce McPherson Chancellor April 15, 1943 – June 4, 2025
Joyce “Joy” McPherson Chancellor, age 82, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. Born on April 15, 1943, in Augusta, Georgia, Joy was a radiant presence whose love, wisdom, and quiet strength enriched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her kindness was effortless, her compassion deep, and her grace enduring—leaving behind a beautiful legacy carried on by all who knew and loved her.
Joy spent her early years in Brunswick, Georgia, and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1961. She later earned a degree in business administration from Jones Business College in Jacksonville, Florida. While in college, she met and married the love of her life, Jack Chancellor, on June 22, 1963. Together, they shared 62 joyful years of marriage, built on deep friendship, shared faith, and unwavering devotion.
Throughout her life, Joy embraced each new chapter with open arms. She and Jack moved from Jacksonville to St. Petersburg in 1971, then spent a brief time in Toledo, Ohio, before settling in Fort Myers, Florida in 1982, which she joyfully called home.
Professionally, Joy began her career as a legal secretary for the Honorable Julian Warren. She later found her calling as a patient representative at Southwest Regional Medical Center, where her genuine care and empathy made a lasting difference to countless individuals and families.
Joy had a natural eye for beauty and creativity—she loved art, sewing, interior design, and was known for her elegant sense of style. She found joy in the simple things: pink roses, a quiet game of solitaire, or a heartfelt meal shared with her loved ones. Her cooking, especially beloved family recipes passed down from her mother, brought comfort and joy to generations.
A passionate traveler, Joy explored the United States—including Hawaii—as well as Canada, England, Russia, and countries along the Baltic Sea. Wherever she went, she brought warmth, curiosity, and a love for connection.
Joy was deeply involved in her church community, where she lovingly served as a MYF youth group counselor in the 1980s and later led the Sewing Ministry—crafting lap blankets for homebound and ill church members. Her faith was her foundation, and her service reflected her generous spirit.
One of the most cherished moments of her life was renewing her vows with Jack at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary in 1988.
She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her contagious laughter, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Joy lived her life guided by kindness, humility, and faith—principles that touched every part of her journey.
Joy is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Chancellor; her brother, Chuck McPherson; her children, Wade Chancellor (Angela), and Allison Rainey (Chuck); her grandchildren, Conner and Caleb Rainey, and William and John Chancellor. She is also survived by her beloved niece Catherine Norton and great-nieces Rachel and Sarah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Clifford McPherson, and Oreta Lamb McPherson, as well as her dear sister-in-law and friend, Peggy McPherson.
A celebration of Joy’s remarkable life will be held later in Fort Myers, with details to follow.
