Joyce Glandon's Obituary
Joyce L. Glandon (nee Kovanda), age 91, of Fort Myers, FL died on March 6, 2009 at Shellpoint, Fort Myers, FL. Beloved wife for 62 years of the late Clare E. Glandon, she was born Dec. 20, 1917 in Milligan, NE, daughter of Fred and Rose Kovanda (nee Bulin). Following her mother’s death, she was raised by Fred and Anna Kovanda (nee Bulin).A resident of Fort Myers since 1982, she formerly lived in St. Louis where her husband was employed by Pet Inc. After retirement, they resided on Sanibel Island and Grand Traverse Bay, MI.Joyce graduated from Milligan High School and the University of Nebraska with honors where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and met her husband Clare. She also studied at Merrill Palmer Institute and the University of Wisconsin. She taught high school in Geneva, NE and then in Park Ridge, IL, while Clare was deployed during WW II. Joyce will be most remembered for her devotion to her family. She was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Parent Teachers Association, and the United Methodist Church.She is survived by her loving children, Virginia (George) Nugent of Vestal, NY, Judith (Robert, deceased) McLachlin of Chesterfield, MO, Robert (Victoria) Glandon of Ridgefield, CT, her six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her brother Glenn Kovanda and sister Rosemary Capek of Geneva, NE, her brother-in-law James Glandon of Kearney, NE, and nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.A memorial service will be held at the Faith United Methodist Church chapel, 15690 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL on Friday March 27 at 10:00.
