Joyce Martha Tacktill's Obituary
Joyce Tacktill, a beloved resident of Fort Myers, Florida since 2017, formerly of Long Island, New York, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, July 26, 2024. She was born on January 14, 1955, in Long Island, New York, to the late Shepherd and Mildred Levine.
Joyce was a remarkable woman who achieved the extraordinary feat of becoming a World Champion weightlifter at the age of 50. Alongside her devoted husband, Stephen, she traveled across the country for her competitions, showcasing her strength and determination. Their adventures didn’t stop there; they also enjoyed scuba diving together in the beautiful waters of Freeport, Bahamas.
Joyce had an undying passion and love for birds. She and Stephen cherished their three feathered companions, Bobo, Sam, and Murdock, whom they considered their children. Joyce’s love for her birds was unparalleled, and they brought immense joy to her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Stephen Tacktill; three siblings, Amy Levine, Charles Levine and his wife, Linda and Brian Levine; her very special nieces and nephew, Brianna and Christian; mother-in-law, Marilyn Tacktill; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Joyce’s sudden departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her incredible achievements, her adventurous spirit, and her boundless love for her family and feathered friends.
