Juan Antonio Cruz's Obituary
Juan Antonio Cruz of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 4:40 PM following some recent health challenges. He was born in Sunnyside, Washington on July 23, 1962 and was 56 years old at the time of his death.Juan is survived by his wife Vickie DeArmond of 28 1/2 years and by his parents Cristobal Cruz and Oralia (Cassiano) Cruz of Washington State; sister Mary Sanders of Washington State; brother Cristobal Cruz of Utah; sister Nora A. Cruz of Oregon and brother Jose Jesus (Liz) of Washingron State. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and who knew him as Spiderman.Juan was an amazing athlete from the moment he started walking. All he cared about was playing ball. In High School he played baseball, basketball and football with scouts from all these sports watching his performance. Juan was drafted after graduation for professional baseball and played in the minor-league system for the California Angels and was later traded to the Oakland A’s.After leaving baseball, Juan moved to Fort Myers with a fellow ball player to Fort Myers. He loved living in the area and competed in many softball leagues and dart leagues along with playing golf. He was awesome at all sports.Juan owned his own business, Juan Cruz Inc., and was the best flooring installer in town. He worked only by referrals and was extremely successful.Juan loved his hangouts, The Half Shell Lounge and Gator Lanes, and made a whole family from all his friends.A Memorial Service for Juan will be celebrated by Pastor Rich Schnieders of Grace Brethren Church at 1:00 PM inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends are welcome to gather for this service a half-hour preceding the ceremony beginning at 12:30 PM also inside the funeral home chapel.
